How to Get a Job in NHS? For Pakistani Doctors in 2026 - £55k Salary + Visa Sponsorship


If you are a doctor from Pakistan and want to work in the UK's NHS, this post is for you. The UK has a huge shortage of doctors and Pakistani doctors are highly valued in the NHS. Starting salary is £55,000 per year with free visa sponsorship.


How Can a Pakistani Doctor Go to NHS? 2 Routes


Route 1: PLAB Route - Easiest for Most Doctors


1. PLAB 1 - You can give this from Pakistan - Centers in Lahore and Karachi. Fee is £250. It is a 180-question exam.

2. PLAB 2 - You have to give this in the UK - It is in Manchester. Fee is £934.

3. GMC Registration - After passing both PLABs, you will get GMC registration. After that you can work as a doctor in the UK.

4. Apply for Jobs - Apply on NHS Jobs website - NHS will give you a Health and Care Worker visa. Visa sponsorship is free.


Route 2: MRCP / MRCS Route


If you are a specialist, you can go without PLAB. If you have passed MRCP, GMC gives direct registration.


Do You Need IELTS or OET?


Yes, you need an English test. You need 7.5 bands in IELTS - 7 in each module. Or B grade in OET. OET is easier for doctors because it has medical English.


How Much is the Salary?


Junior Doctor salary is £40,000 to £55,000 per year. After 2 years it becomes up to £70,000. Consultant doctor salary is more than £100,000.
