UK Spouse Visa £29,000 Rule & Care Worker Visa Ban 2026 - Pakistan

 If you are planning to bring your wife or husband to the UK in 2026, then you must read this new update carefully. The UK Home Office has made the biggest change in the last 10 years. The spouse visa income requirement has been increased and the care worker visa route is almost closed for Pakistanis.

NEW SPOUSE VISA INCOME RULE - £29,000

In the old system, to bring your spouse from Pakistan to UK, you needed to show £18,600 annual income. This was the rule for many years. But from 11th April 2024, UK increased it to £29,000 and now in 2026 this rule is fully active and strict.

What does £29,000 mean for Pakistanis? If you are working in UK on Skilled Worker or British citizen and you want to sponsor your wife from Pakistan, you must have a job in UK with salary of at least £29,000 per year. This is around £2,416 per month before tax. If your salary is £27,000 or £28,000, your application will be refused straight away. There is no flexibility.

And the worst part - they have also said that by early 2025 this will go up to £38,700, same as Skilled Worker salary threshold. But for now in 2026, official threshold is £29,000 and UKVI is refusing many cases from Pakistan because people are still showing £18,600.

You can combine income? Yes but only in some cases. If you have savings, you need £88,500 savings held for 6 months if you have no income. If you have both income and savings, there is a formula. But for 90% of Pakistani sponsors, they just check your 6 months payslips and bank statement. If your payslips show less than £29,000 annual, refusal.

Second option - if your spouse is already in UK on another visa, the same rule applies for switching to spouse visa inside UK.

CARE WORKER VISA BANNED? WHAT IS THE TRUTH

Now the second big news that is viral in Pakistan. UK care worker visa is closed? Let me tell you the truth with official source.

From 11th March 2024, UK Home Office made two big changes for Health and Care Worker visa (SOC code 6145, 6146).

Change 1: Care workers (care assistants and senior care workers) can NO LONGER bring dependants. Means if you get a care worker visa from Pakistan, you cannot bring your wife and children with you. You must go alone. Before, you could bring family.

Change 2: Only CQC registered care homes in England can sponsor care workers. Many fake sponsorship agencies in Pakistan were selling care home certificates for 15 to 20 lakh rupees. Now UK has banned many of those sponsors. Over 400 care companies lost their sponsor licence in 2024-2025.

In 2026, the situation is even more strict. UKVI is now asking for more proof that the care home actually has a genuine vacancy. Many Pakistanis who paid to agents are getting refusal with reason - Genuine vacancy not available.

So is care worker visa fully closed? No, it is not fully closed, but for Pakistanis it is almost impossible without a real offer from NHS or a big registered care group. If an agent says give me 20 lakh I will give you care worker visa with family, it is 100% fraud in 2026.

WHAT IS TRENDING NOW - WHICH VISA IS SAFE?

After this ban, many Pakistanis are now moving to two routes:

1. Skilled Worker Visa - But salary must be £38,700 for most jobs. For health jobs, £29,000 may be accepted but still high.

2. Student Visa - But now UK universities are doing very strict Pre-CAS interviews. High-risk courses like Business Management, Health and Social Care, International Business are getting high rejection for Pakistani students in Sep 2026 intake. UKVI has told universities to check funds very strictly.

3. Visitor Visa - Now converted to eVisa from 25 Feb 2026, as I explained in last post.

If you want to bring your wife/husband, my honest advice - make sure your UK salary is at least £29,000 on paper with HMRC record. Don't show cash in hand. UKVI checks HMRC tax record now directly. Many Pakistanis show fake payslips of £2,500 per month but HMRC record shows £1,400 - instant ban for 10 years for deception.

Documents needed for spouse visa in 2026 for Pakistanis:

- Sponsor 6 months payslips showing £29k

- 6 months bank statements matching payslips

- Employer letter confirming salary and job

- HMRC tax history

- Marriage Nikkah Nama English translated and NADRA registered

- English A1 test for wife from Pakistan

- Accommodation report (council letter or house inspection)

- Relationship proof - chat history, wedding photos, call logs

Processing time from Pakistan is now 12 to 16 weeks. From Islamabad and Lahore, spouse visa is taking longer than before because of extra income checks.

Final advice - If your UK salary is less than £29,000, do not apply now. You will lose visa fee which is around £1,846 plus IHS £1,035 per year. It is better to wait, increase your salary, or switch to a job that pays £29k.

And for care workers - please don't pay any agent in Pakistan for care visa with family package. That package is closed by law since March 2024. If you want to go alone and you have a real CQC care home that knows you, then you can try.
