UK Student Visa Funds Increase From Pakistan 2026 - How Much Bank Statement Needed for January Intake

 Hi everyone!

UK Student Visa Funds Increase From 30 November 2026: New Maintenance Requirement You Must Know

If you are planning to study in the UK for January 2027 intake or later, there is an important update you cannot ignore. The UK Home Office has officially increased the financial requirement for Student Visa applications. From 30th November 2026, international students will need to show more money in their bank accounts for living costs.

This change was announced in the Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules (HC 584) published on 3rd September 2026. It will directly affect students from Pakistan, India, Nigeria and all other countries who need to show proof of funds.

Many agents are still telling the old amounts, which can lead to visa refusal. In this simple guide, I will explain the new amounts, the 28-day rule, and how to calculate the exact funds you need to show.

What is the New Funds Requirement From November 2026?

The UK calls it the Maintenance or Living Cost requirement. This is the money you need to prove you can support yourself while studying, separate from your tuition fees.

From 30 November 2026, the new monthly requirements are:

For students studying in London: £1,570 per month, up from £1,529.

For students studying outside London: £1,203 per month, up from £1,171.

This money needs to be shown for up to 9 months, which is the maximum UKVI asks for.

So the total maximum you need to show is:

London: £1,570 x 9 = £14,130 (Previously £13,761)

Outside London: £1,203 x 9 = £10,827 (Previously £10,539)

Remember, this is only for living costs. If your university CAS says you still have outstanding tuition fees, you must show that money on top of this living cost amount.

Who Will Be Affected and Who Is Safe?

The new rule applies to all Student Visa applications made on or after 30th November 2026. If you submit your online application on 29th November 2026 or before, your application will be decided under the old, lower rates.

So if you have a CAS for September 2026 intake and you are applying late, try to apply before 29th November. But if you are applying for January 2027 intake, you will definitely fall under the new higher requirement.

This also applies to students who are already in the UK and are extending their Student Visa after 30th November.

The only students who do not need to show these funds are those who are fully sponsored by a government, a scholarship body like Chevening, or those who have been in the UK for more than 12 months.

The 28-Day Rule Explained in Simple Words

Having the money is not enough. UKVI is very strict about how you hold it. Your bank statement must show that the required amount has been in your account for at least 28 consecutive days.

The last day of those 28 days must be within 31 days of your visa application date.

Common mistakes that cause refusal:

1. Using two different bank accounts to combine the amount. UKVI wants the full amount in one account.

2. Showing the money in a parent's account without proper documents. You need birth certificate and parental consent letter.

3. Using a bank that UKVI does not accept.

4. Online screenshots without a bank stamp.

How to Calculate Total Funds You Need to Show (With Example)

Let's make it practical for a Pakistani student.

Suppose you are going to Coventry University (Outside London) for a 1-year Masters. Your total tuition fee is £16,000 and you have paid £4,000 deposit. Your CAS shows £12,000 still due.

Your living cost requirement under new rules: £10,827

Your outstanding tuition fee: £12,000

Total funds you need to show: £22,827

If you were going to a London university with same fees, you would need £14,130 + £12,000 = £26,130.

This is why many students are now choosing universities outside London to reduce the maintenance funds burden.

Why Has The UK Increased This Amount?

The Home Office says they are aligning the Student Visa maintenance funds with the maintenance loans available to home students in the UK for the 2026/27 academic year. Because living costs, rent and food have increased in the UK due to inflation, they have increased the requirement for international students as well.

It is also part of a wider plan. In 2026, UK also increased Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) from £776 to £1,035 per year, and student visa application fee from £524 to £558.

What Should You Do Now to Avoid Refusal?

1. Keep at least £14,500 if London or £11,200 if outside London plus your remaining tuition fees for 28 days. Always keep £300-£400 extra.

2. If you are taking an education loan, get the loan disbursement letter. It must be dated no more than 6 months before your visa application.

3. Do not move large amounts of money in and out during the 28 days.

4. Get your TB test and CAS early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this increase confirmed by Gov.uk?

Yes, it is published in HC 584 Statement of Changes and will be updated on gov.uk/student-visa/money from 30th November.

Q: Will my dependent also need to show more funds?

Yes, dependent partner needs £845 per month in London and £680 outside London from same date.

Q: What if I apply before 30 Nov but my appointment is after?

The date of online application and fee payment matters, not your biometric date. If you pay fee before 30 Nov, you are under old rules.

Final Advice

This increase of £288 to £369 may seem small in pounds, but it is significant for many families. My advice is to not take a risk. Prepare your bank statement according to new rates even if you plan to apply in November.
